FROM HELPFUL TO NOT HELPFUL: A RATING OF AGENCY CAREER SITES
By Alex Harrington, Executive Director
In one of my most recent blogs (Maximize Your Federal Job Search By Using These Four Strategies, April 25, 2022), I recommended to check out Agencies' career sites to learn more about their current vacancies and internship opportunities, fellowships, and co-op programs.
Well, I decided to take my own advice. I briefly scanned 15 Department-level career webpages to see what they had to offer to job seekers looking for federal career opportunities.
As a result, I found nearly half of the 15 Department-level career sites contained not only current job vacancies, but they also included useful "How to apply" for federal jobs, resume writing tips, and other helpful career-related information.
Likewise, seven of the other Departments' career sites contained some "How to apply" for federal jobs, along with current job vacancies. But there was only one Department that seemed to not have a career page at all.
So, check out the following Department-level career sites from the most helpful to not-so-helpful.
Very Helpful - The Agency's career webpage not only lists current job vacancies, but also provides very useful career search resources and resume tips for job seekers.
Somewhat Helpful - The Agency's career webpage provides current job openings and some "How to Apply" tips.
Very Unhelpful - The Agency did not provide any career webpages or job openings list.
