About the Panelists:

Dylan Garon is the Associate Director of Security Operations for the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Protection Services. As a leader in one of the largest organizations in the Institution, Dylan is responsible for the protection and security services of the Smithsonian’s 19 museums, the National Zoo and 9 research facilities in Washington, D.C, New York, Virginia, Maryland and Panama. His oversight of security spans the full spectrum of major events, emergencies, crimes, and customer service challenges. In addition to overseeing security operations, Dylan has taken on numerous leadership roles across the Smithsonian. He currently serves on the Smithsonian’s reopening team, which is responsible for the safe and gradual public reopening, in response to Covid-19. Dylan began his career with the Smithsonian as a college intern while attending Marymount University where he received his B.A. in History.

Michael Mau is the President of M2 Consulting & Advising and a 2022 candidate for the City Council. He currently provides partnership development and strategic planning guidance to organizations. Michael has worked within the private, public, and nonprofit sectors and has extensive experience within the areas of Program Development, Talent Acquisition, Diversity & Inclusion, and Community Outreach. He retired from the Central Intelligence Agency as an Executive Staff Officer with over 27 years of service and is a US Air Force veteran. Michael serves on two Boards, volunteers as a mentor, reviews scholarship applications for a variety of diversity organizations, and is active within his community.

About the Panelists:

James Steele brings over a decade of experience as a communication professional and educator. A full-time communication instructor with Northern Virginia Community College, he educates students in subjects such as public speaking, introduction to communication, and intercultural communication. He also volunteers Federal Career Connection, Inc. as the Assistant Director of Communications and at Career Network Ministry as a Communications Consultant.
