GREAT JOB OPPORTUNITY WITH AMERICA’S TSA

By Chris Westbrook, FCC Curriculum DirectorThe Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on Feb. 19 that it is seeking to hire over 6,000 Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) by this summer 2021.TSA has an awesome mission to protect our nation’s traveling public and air commerce. In fact, I have worked with hundreds of TSA employees and found them universally dedicated to their mission and their TSA teammates. And according to Melanie Harvey, acting Executive Assistant Administrator for TSA’s Security Operations, “TSOs are a critical first-line defense in security of our nation’s commercial air transportation system. Each day, our officers screen hundreds of thousands of airline travelers, ensuring they arrive at their destinations safely. The reason for the expected hiring surge of TSOs is because of TSA’s preparation for an increase in airline traffic as the summer months approach and the general public is increasingly vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.TSA has already launched targeted recruitment efforts and job fairs in cities across the country to meet staffing needs at about 430 airports nationwide. This is a great opportunity for competitive applicants who have a passion for public service and hard work. They will also need to be adept at solving problems and managing conflicts that arise in a busy and dynamic workplace.Jobs are available for both full-time and part-time positions, and benefits include access to medical coverage, vacation and sick leave, and retirement plans.
